Literacy and Numeracy

At our school we definitely believe in the “Back to Basics” push, although we never really let go of the idea.

Teachers are regularly updating their teaching practices and learning approaches in the areas of reading, writing and arithmetic - or literacy and numeracy as they are now called.  We have ongoing school-wide focuses and training in these areas at all times.  Our well stocked and used computer operated library is just one example of the emphasis we place on ‘books’ and reading.

Programmes are developed to cater for the individual needs of the children.  Some require extra support and one-to-one help and special programmes like Reading Recovery are available.  Others need extension and many opportunities are provided for positive ‘feel good’ learning opportunities for these children
