Milton Primary School - Respect, Responsibility, Confidence

 Transition to School

Starting school will be one of the ‘big milestones’ in a child’s life.  At Milton Primary School our aim is to provide you with information and ideas that will help both you and your child make a smooth and successful transition into school life.  Two key aspects of our transition to school programme include Friday Funtime and School Visits:

Friday Funtime

Friday Funtime is Milton Primary School’s transition to school programme for four year olds from the Tokomairiro District.  This is held in Room 1 every Friday afternoon from 1.30 pm till 2.30 pm.

We are happy to help all children to learn with confidence and be ready to start school by:

  •  Helping to make a smooth and enjoyable transition to school
  • Developing children’s readiness for school in literacy, numeracy, and social skills.
  • Showing parents how they can assist their child at home, in preparation for entry to school.
  • Developing a home-school partnership.

If your child is 4, you are welcome to bring them along to Milton Primary School for this transition to school programme.  We do ask that parents stay with their child – you are welcome to observe the programme or visit the staff room for a cup of coffee!!  Please click here for more information on Friday Funtime.

Please contact us if you would like your child to attend Friday Funtime.

School Visits

Your child will begin pre-school visits approximately six weeks before they are due to start school.  These visits are designed to make the transition to school a smoother process for your child.  Our school visits programme provides opportunities for children to be involved in a variety of experiences so they know what being at school is like.  Remember to make notes of any questions that need answered during these visits.
