Health and PE
Health
and Physical Education is:
- About the well-being of the children themselves, of other people, and
of society through learning in health-related and movement contexts. (NZC pg 22)
Our Beliefs about Health and Physical Education:
- Through
learning in Health and Physical Education, our children will improve their own
well-being, the well-being of others, and the well-being of their community,
while developing a wide range of personal and physical skills.
- Our teaching priorities include: keeping safe, self-esteem and relationships, and exercise and nutrition.
Health and Physical Education Programme
- Two major
health focuses per year
- Minor health
focuses to be integrated where possible
- Our health
and physical education curriculum reflects the school values and the
principles, key competencies, knowledge, skills, and attitudes of the New
Zealand Curriculum.
- Health is
taught within the classroom programme whereas Physical Education (PE) is taught
by a specialist teacher. This system
ensures that children are exposed to a wider range of learning opportunities in
PD.
- Our PE
programme will follow the seasonal sports of our area; PS skill based sessions
will be linked with game play
- Experts and community members will be part of a support programme e.g. sports activator, coaching, St John Kids, Life Education
