National Standards

National Standards are the benchmark that primary and intermediate children are expected to be able to achieve in reading, writing and maths in Years 1-8.  The National Standards will help by setting clear expectations for the reading, writing, and mathematics knowledge and skills children need to achieve at each level of the curriculum.

By making these demands specific, the standards will assist teachers, parents, whānau, and communities to make clear judgments as to whether children’s competence in reading, writing, and mathematics is enabling their learning across the full curriculum, and whether they are making the expected progress.
